Leopold Jaycees - Chapter 0508Newest of these organizations in the Leopold area is Chapter 0508 of the Jaycees. This group is chartered on December 20, 1977, with 29 members. Junior Chamber of Commerce, United States, is an organization of men from 21 to 35 years of age who are interested in leadership training through civic improvement. The national organization was founded in St. Louis in 1920.

The local chapter has been active in several projects since its beginning. From funds raised by the group, financial help has been given to fund drives with a Crippled Children and Muscular Dystrophy benefits. The group has also acquired a truck mounted with a water tank for emergency use in case of fires, but has been unable to complete this project for lack of a place to store the truck where it would be out of danger of freezing.

During the past few years the Jaycees have been developing a park located between Leopold and Glennon. Activities have been scheduled at the park for both entertainment and fund-raising purposes. The scheduled events have included tractor pulls, mud races, shooting matches, and outdoor dances. Plans are to continue with the development of the park and to construct a lake on the site sometime in the future.
