St. John's Catholic Church was founded in 1856 and the current church was built in the year of 1899. Work was begun in the spring.

The church was built in pure Gothic style from native limestone found around and near the town.

Parishioners of St. John's did most of the work on the church themselves.

The church has undergone many interior changes.
